Description & Remarks

An annual with a branched rough stem, to 60 cm tall. Leaves 2-3 pinnate. Unbels at the stems edges, lacking bracts. Rays usually 4-6, falcate, equal. Umbellule has 5-6 bracteoles. Flowers pinkish white, 2-4 mm across, styles long. Fruit slender with very ling prickles (to 3mm). The plant differs from other Torilis species in this combination of characters : long fruit prickles, long styles and falcate rays.

The plant is known from Turkey and Lebanon in the west to Iraq and Iran in the east. It was not known from our region and was found by Sh. Mazar in the S Golan about 2 km from Nov Meadow, 2018. It was identified by Simon Cohen-Sivan in the forum of this website.

Recently we found in the GBIF website that the plant was collected in Nov Meadow already in 1968 by Michael Zohary. In the early 1990′ it was recorded again from the same area and from Hushniya by Ofer Cohen and Uzi Plitmann, these records were never published.
