Description & Remarks

A desert shrublet with opposite rounded crenate leaves. Flowers are borne in false distant verticillasters. Calyx limb is papery, much enlarged in its lower part compared with its upper one. Calyx tube 10 veined. Corolla white, upper lip erect and very hairy. Corolla tube included in calyx. Mericarps blunt. O. kaiseri and O. schimperi, both recorded from Sinai (Egypt), are both included today in O. fruticosa, that is widespread from S Jordan (Wadi Rum) and S Sinai to the horn of Africa.
