Description & Remarks

This plant is planted as an ornamental tree all over the country. Seeds escaping from cultivation germinate in secondary habitats, as takes place in many other cultivated plants. Specimens growing spontaneously in Nahal David, En Gedi, and in similar springs in Moav, Jordan, seem to grow far away from the human-induced seed source. The plants are growing there in primary natural habitats, where competition of the existing vegetation could prevent invasion. Reports on the presence of this plant in African savannas joined the discovery in En Gedi water-fall and hence the plant was included in the list of the wild plants of Israel
