Description & Remarks

In a study of nomenclature and typification in the genus Capparis, Dr. Diego Rivera and his colleagues discovered that the proper name for our caper (displayed in the photographs) is Capparis inermis Forssk. However, since the name Capparis cartilaginea Decne., was in a wide use in floras of the area for a long time, they submitted in 2003 a request to save this name and prefer it over C. inermis Forssk. The international committee dealing with that approved their request. We therefore follow the international nomenclature and return to use Capparis cartilaginea Decne. for our plant.
