Description & Remarks

Bulb almost globose, 5-10 cm across, covered by grey tunics. 8-12 leaves , all in a basal rosette, ascending or creeping, pointed, with a pale mid-stripe, up to 4 cm wide. Scape with many flowers that bloom from bottom upwards, leafless, more or less erect, 1-1.5 m tall, much taller than leaves. Flowers small, violet to light blue, star-shaped, 8-9 mm across. Pedicels horizontal, especially prominent in fruit stage. Anthers dark purple, prominent in contrast to the paler perianth. The fruit is a dry capsule that opens and disperses black seeds.
