Description & Remarks
C. rausii was described by M.A. Garcia from the Aegean island of Karpathos. The holotype was collected in 1983 by T. Raus, the Botanical Garden, Berlin. The diagnostic characters are its small tetramerous flowers on pedicels as long as or longer than the calyx, and a calyx that is longer than the corolla tube. Recently, two small additional populations of C. rausii were discovered north of Atlit, Israel, on a shallow sandstone ridge near the shore of the Mediterranean Sea. The absence of specimens of C. rausii in the herbaria might indicate that these populations resulted from a recent dispersal event or poor collection.
