Description & Remarks

Capparis ramonensis is described in the scientific journal Willdenowia, vol. 41:312-314. It is published in December 2011. As long as known at present it is endemic to an area of 3.35 km square where it is confined to outcrops of a Triasic gypsum at the vicinity of Shen Ramon. It grows only in natural habitats (not even slightly disturbed) and the height of most individuals is 10-40 cm. During the winter, November through February, it is recognized by only dry stems. Each year a new prostrate, creeping stem sprouts, branches, and produce flowers and fruits when the plant is adult. The old stems deteriorate slowly and may be recognized by grades of gray color.
