Description & Remarks

A drought resistant fern growing in rock crevices and in walls of agricultural terraces in the Mediterranean territory. It also grows, rarely, in rock crevices of the shrub-steppes. One of its biological advantages is it being poikilohydric. The meaning of this property is its ability to survive drought levels of the area surrounding it. Hence, when dry its leaves become rolled towards the center of the leaf, exposing brown scales which assist reflecting solar radiation absorbed by the plant. A shortwhile after leaf and rhizosphere wetting it imbibes, the leaves roll nack and expose the green side of the leaf as seen in the photos.
